Carlsbad Mental Health Center’s psychiatric department services are available to persons 18 and older who are experiencing emotional or developmental difficulties and who need a higher level of treatment in conjunction with other types of therapy treatment. Our licensed, professional medical staff includes psychiatrists, certified psychiatric nurse practitioners and a registered nurse who are experienced in treating clients with a variety of mental health issues.
Psychiatric Assessments
A doctor or nurse practitioner supervises our client cases with special training in psychiatric medicine. Assessments are provided to identify problems and determine the best approach to treatment.
Telepsychiatry
Carlsbad Mental Health Center is proud to be on the cutting edge of technology. Through the use of new and innovative technology that is televideo and telemedicine,Carlsbad Mental Health Center is able to link to the University of New Mexico’s Health Sciences Center. UNM provides Carlsbad Mental Health Center and its clients with access to an adult psychiatrist, addictions psychiatrist and a child psychiatrist. These psychiatrists meet and assess clients on a daily basis through the use of televideo in a comfortable, non-threatening supervised office setting. Our clients are able to see and instantaneously interact with the psychiatrist. In addition, the psychiatrist makes periodic on-site visits to personally meet with clients.
Medication Services
Depending on the nature of the difficulty, doctor-prescribed medications may provide some benefit as an individual attempts to work though personal issues.
Our registered nurse and licensed practical nurses meet with our clients and work closely with our doctors and nurse practitioners, providing valuable feedback on how each person is responding to prescribed medication.
